Pathological Narcissism and Other Personality Disorders

NPD and HPD

Both narcissistic and histrionic individuals tend to demonstrate exhibitionistic, dramatic, and seductive behavior. However, the histrionic person is capable of warmth, dependency, and genuine concern and commitment, while the narcissist is more cold, exploitative, manipulative, and aggressive (O. Kernberg, 1975; Millon, 1981; Morey & Jones, 1998). The histrionic person can appear spontaneous, without ulterior motives and seemingly sympathetic for all the trouble he or she causes, while the narcissistic individual is more controlled, calculating, and relentless.
